Folding Mirrors illegal?

Hi Scotti

I live on a narrow street and drivers are constantly hitting into my side mirror. I make it a point to fold the mirror in at night. I found a local auto stereo shop that would convert the mirror to a motorized folding mirror that will fold automatically when you lock the car with the engine off. It's about the same price installed as the OEM replacement of the manual mirror. It is an after market replica of the original with a folding motor installed. Then someone told me it might be illegal as it can be considered tampering with one of the safety features of the car.

I know in certain states tinted windows are illegal so why not auto folding mirrors.

What do you think? Ever heard of such a thing.

I've never heard of such a thing being illegal at least where I live, but aside from that I would not let one of those shops touch anything at this level with my car. Unfortunately they are known for messing up with wires and electrical stuff etc. Just fold it last thing when you get off.

Just manually fold in your mirror from now on, and make a habit out of it. My step dad used to drive a Ford Escape. He had problems with people clipping other people's side mirrors on his street, so he folded the mirror in every night. He did it for 4 years. It takes 10 seconds.
