Hi, i really need help i recently bought my explorer from a dealer and i have a 30 day guarantee with the insurance and its about to run out. A few times now a yellow wranch light has come on on my dashboard making the car shake and lose speed until i have to pull over and just turn off and on the car for it to go away but i took it to the dealer mechanic people and since the light wasn’t on they said they couldn’t do anything for me but if it by any chance the light turn back on again before the guarantee insurance expired to take it to them turn on and with the light on too, but i being driving hoping that it does. Any help or advise on how or what could i do?
Don't take it to a dealership; they try to do all they can to say a problem doesn't exist or it's normal when in reality it's not. If you have a trusted independent mechanic take it to them to check the car. But honestly if it were me I would just get rid of it if you can do it with the guarantee that you have; a Ford Explorer with that mileage and already having problems is just not worth keeping in my opinion.
I wish I would have come here sooner but as of now I have not much options I believe. If you or anyone else has any advice on how to make the yellow wrench light come back on I would gladly appreciate it.
So you said you have an insurance guarantee which is why I said if under the guarantee you can get rid of the vehicle then do so; that light is indicating a powertrain malfunction according to a quick search I performed online and depending on how serious it is it can be costly to fix. Or again as I said if you know a trusted independent mechanic take it to them, tell them you get that yellow wrench light sometimes and they can scan with their scan tool to find out what the reason is OR they can check the car for anything related to that yellow wrench light. You said the dealership just said they can't do anything since the light isn't on so I'm assuming they didn't scan for codes or check anything thus the independent mechanic suggestion.
You are assuming correctly they didn’t check for codes or anything. I will try and find a mechanic see if they find anything related to it. Would you say that if they find the codes or what’s causing the yellow wrench light to turn on and they give me a paper with the proof or anything like that would they check it and fix it?
So you've bought a used car which means no factory warranty. Not sure if the dealership sold you some type of warranty or certified pre-owned or something, but unfortunately with such things they put so many disclaimers in the fine print that literally doesn't cover anything. If you can get them to cover it yeah go in and tell them so and so is the problem so now fix it. But otherwise your only other option would be having the same independent mechanic fix it for you and pay out of pocket. And this is exactly why I said if under the guarantee you can get rid of it then definitely do so.
I will see what can be done. If nothing helps i might just have to do as you say
Well best thing to do is getting rid of it under the guarantee if there is no penalty associated with it; it's a Ford and it's already having issues so more can be expected.
