I have a 2007 Ford Explorer with 150,000 miles on it and every morning I start up the engine oil light is on and will stay on for about a minute and 30 seconds then it goes out and never comes back on. Does that mean that the oil pump is going bad in the engine? Or does it mean that the oil sensor is going bad? It only does this if the engine sets up for more than 6 to 8 hours without running.
I took it to a local auto Mechanic and he put a gauge on it and he said it was producing 60 psi of pressure and he then put a new Oil Sensor Switch in and it has not failed since for the past week now. I am glad is was the Sensor. A $90 repair cost including labor better than the $1200 oil pump cost they quoted me.
I saw this clip and Scotty was right. I had Oil and it was not making any Engine Noise when running. The Sensor he told me had oil near the connector.

The Mechanic said as soon as He Cranked the Explorer it was 60PSI and he said it was not the Oil Pump is was the Sensor and He tested it 4 times in the Day leaving it for 3 hours at a time. It still had 60PSI instantly and the Problem was the Sensor.
It means that your oil pump needs some time to produce enough pressure. So, I think your guess may be right, the oil pump is going out.
