Would a 2016 ford fusion with 14100 miles and priced at $4900 be a good reliable commuter car? Thank you
I had a 2013 Ford Fusion that I bought used in 2016. It was fine for the two years I had it. I traded it in for my 2017 Mustang that I bought new in 2018 as a leftover. Mine had a 1.6L EcoBoost engine. Knowing what I know now, I should have gotten the 2.4L naturally aspirated engine instead if I wanted longevity.
If it's naturally aspirated (you didn’t specify what engine or hybrid engine is in it), it will last longer than the EcoBoost engine will.
That is suspiciously low mileage at a suspiciously low price. I'd be leary that it had a major accident and the dealer is trying to get rid of it on an unsuspecting customer.
Here is a website that runs the car's VIN for an intro fee of $1, and there's a 7-day window where you can run a few more VINs for free:
Never trust just CarFax; I was in the market for another truck recently. The truck I was interested in had a clear report according to CarFax. I ran the VIN through this service as well, and the VIN was flagged as having unknown structural damage. That was a deal breaker, I didn't even go look at it. It was also owned by 6 different owners in 11 years -another massive red flag.
The truck I wound up getting had one owner, and he owned it for the truck's first 167k miles. He did transmission fluid changes, transfer case changes... he kept up with maintenance.
In general most Fords are not paragons of reliability. Unless that's a typo the 14100 miles claimed is very suspicious and would need to be verified. Other than that you have provided very little detail. What engine? Front drive or AWD? Conventional gas engine or hybrid?
