Hey Scotty! I have a very pampered 2012 Ford Flex Limited AWD with 249000 miles. Recently I replaced the front struts with a set of Monroe quick-struts. While there I also replaced the passenger side CV axle because the boot was torn and the work to replace the boot required the removal of the axle anyway. Everything was reassembled and torqued to factory specifications, but now I'm experiencing a slight shimmy at low speeds that wasn't there before. I made sure to top off the PTU with the suggested gear oil and double checked that everything was properly tightened and secure. I also pulled the wheels off to check for balance. Everything seems 100%. Any idea what could be causing this shimmy sensation?
Several things to check, but usually that is due to worn front end bushings. Some folks will say it's an unbalanced tire which is definitely possible (rotate the tires to see if it goes away) but on a vehicle with those miles I'll bet the bushings are loose. A lot of times people will blame 'warped brake rotors', which they fix for a few days by having them turned or replacing them, but when the shimmy returns they keep chasing what they think are bad rotors but is actually loose bushings. Bushings are relatively cheap. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I did replace both front control arms about 12000 miles ago and I did check the bushings and lower ball joints and they're all in great shape still. Do you think it could be the new CV axle that's out of balance?
