Hi Scotty. I have a question about fuel consumption because everyone is talking about new cars that after some miles they get better fuel consumption. But I had 2 brand new cars and I have never witnessed that. Is that true that after some miles a new car gets better fuel consumption?
Yes.
After an engine gets "run-in", pistons and rings seat better, bearings get seated, the engine runs with less friction and you get a little better fuel economy.
Our parent new vehicle dealership considers 600 miles to be the "rule of thumb", but new vehicle break-in periods vary greatly.
We also find that new vehicle owners tend to drive more aggressively after owning the vehicle for a brief period, which can lower fuel economy numbers.
Not really. MPGs have many factors like driving conditions, how you drive, etc.
