Hi All,
My 1991 Volvo 240 automatic 185k miles has an intermittent electrical problem powering the fuel pumps. This happens rarely but I have needed a tow several times and usually starts the next day. As with most intermittent problems, I could figure it out if I could make it fail. When it won't start, there is always spark but neither fuel pump is getting power and the fuel pump relay has been replaced more than once.
My request is can anyone suggest some things to try to make it fail, wires to jiggle, etc. anything to find the source? Is there anything I have missed? It's a great car, only 185,000 miles, strong runner.
The parts I have replaced include:
- Fuel pump relay
- New fuses and fuse box cleaned w/emery paper
- Both fuel pumps and fuel filter replaced
- Crank angle sensor
- Ignition switch
- Refurbished ECU
This is VERY frustrating!
Thanks very much for any assistance,
alr0
Well, if it's losing power to the fuel pump, only realize Volvo's are relatively complex vehicles with all kinds of computer controls even on those old ones. So why not just run a wire from the ignition switch power to the fuel pump and put a fuse on it and bypass all that computer crap. Assuming it's the fuel pump not getting power is the problem. There are many other things that can conk out a car
