2004 Buick park Ave basic

automatic  no code , 105000 mi.

R rear tire exploded ripped wires behind inner fender. Re fixed wire block to load lever.  Replaced fuel pump fuse.  Pump works.   READY

Fuel gauge only reads full always. Mechanic tested connector at pump, conductivity . No matter what a Full reading.  Pump volt  13

Replaced cluster same, ug, issue..full. old one replaced . Turn key off empty. On full. Something sending voltage still to gauge.

For forum . A mystery . Makes no sense . Seems secondary voltage  applies from somewhere.   Hummm 8-9-23 8ampt

Find another mechanic. This circuit is wired and operates the same as a thermistor circuit. ((which are also 5 volts provided by the PCM and Ground provided by PCM))

He'll hook up his scanner and read the Fuel Level voltage.

If the tank isn't full but the voltage is reading 5 volts he'll suspect a broken wire (either the Purple wire or the Black wire, both of which go from the PCM to the fuel level sensor on the fuel pump).

So he'll disconnect the fuel pump's wiring connector and "jump" those 2 fuel sensor wires together. If the wiring is good between the PCM and the Fuel Pump he'll see that Fuel Level voltage on his scanner get pulled down from 5 volts to 0 volts. If that happens he'll know the wiring is good and he'll condemn the fuel level sensor on the fuel pump.

If that voltage doesn't get pulled down to 0 he'll start looking for the broken wire

If the Voltage is reading above 5 volts he'll look for the short to Battery Power on one of those two wires.

The problem is likely in the area which was damaged by your shredded tire.

It's not clear from your description, did you test the fuel gauge sending unit?
