What do you guys think of the new Gmc Canyon? I really want a truck but I want something slightly luxurious since I don't actually need to tow anything with it
If you are set on the Canyon, I would avoid the 3.6 L V6 as it is mated to the GM designed 8-speed AT (8L45). That transmission is bad enough that that is reason alone not to get the truck with the V6 engine since the two are paired together. There had been class action lawsuits against that 8-speed transmission:
Also, that V6 engine (LGZ) features cylinder deactivation (what GM calls Active Fuel Management or AFM) which puts further stress on the transmission when it activates, not to mention cutting down on the useful life of the engine (from constantly activating and deactivating). I would recommend going with the 2.5L Duramax Diesel which is mated to a GM designed 6-sped AT (6L50) which is better than the 8-speed. That’s a more solid powertrain.
Have you also consider a MY 2019 or earlier (older) Nissan Frontier which has a true and tried powertrain? Also, it is less likely to give you issues than the GM truck (mainly because GM electronics are not the best, especially as it ages.)
I looked at the frontiers it's just I don't like them very much and even though I know Gm isn't very good I want a nice truck that's to some degree luxurious and it's hard to find one that I like, that's why I wanna opt for a gmc bc at least it's sorta luxurious.
If you're not really going to be doing any hard work, pretty much any high trim small truck will appeal to your needs and be reasonably reliable. If you're looking to keep it around 150K, I would test drive a Canyon, Ranger Lariat, and a Tacoma and choose the best truck for you.
The Canyon and Colorado have proven themselves to be two of the most unreliable trucks ever made. Just do some research and find something else. They all look good by the side of the road as you are walking home.
Agree with DW that the diesel is probably a better choice. The Denali package makes it luxury-ish, and probably will tick your boxes. Unfortunately, full size truck inflation has priced a lot of buyers out, and they are drifting to mid-sizers. You might not find much inventory.
I hope it's luxurious enough so you won't mind sitting in and waiting for the tow truck.
