How do I find a mechanic

Dumb question. Scotty's always saying have a good mechanic look over the vehicle before you buy it.

How do I find a good one? Am I searching online for a mobile mechanic or what?

Thanks!

And if you need transmission service, check out Precision Transmission in Amarillo.

And Precision Transmission WILL know of a good mech to refer you too for sure too.

Thank you, I'm looking into those now.

Best chances are ask at all your local parts stores.  Where are you at?  If provided, may get an answer here (I can provide for some areas).

Edit... and not a dumb question at all, very good one imo and wise for asking.

Thanks,
Those are great ideas! I am just outside Abilene TX.

The best way to find a good one is ask friends, family, co-workers locally whom they use for a mechanic.  Usually at least some of them will be taking their cars to an independent mechanic and get their feedback.  That’s a good place to start.  Otherwise, you can look on-line like Yelp and see reviews of various mechanics.  I’ve had to do that 2nd recommendation in the past when I bought a vehicle out of state and needed to take the car to a mechanic for inspection.  I’ve had friends that have also used mobile mechanics for inspection for purchase, but I’ve never done that in the past.

Thank you.
I will ask around and check yelp also.

Be careful with this advice, no offense to DayWalker, but asking 10, 20, 100 novices isn't as good as asking 1 expert/experienced person.
