Hello,

I was looking for a Dodge grand caravan 2009-2014 Crew Plus (I want it for the power trunk and power sliding door)

and tought they were pretty costy so I look further with a Chrysler Town and Country and find out that a lots of them had already power sliding door and trunk in base model !

Find out the engine is not the same between thoses 2 minivan and now im scare about chrysler one, even if I am a new young mechanic... -_-

The question is: If I want theses options which one should I buy depending on Reliability / Money Cost

(Grand Caravan Crew Plus 2009+ are getting around 8000$ and sometimes 6000$)

(Town and Country 2009+ are getting around 3500$ often 2500$ and if lucky 1500$)

I want to know maybe there is someting that make one of theses extremely bad

Thanks, Mickael S.

I should say that my parents had an exellent experience with their Dodge Grand Caravan 1993 so im not that scare to get a Grand Caravan, also I do really want the stow and go feature if Toyota or Honda were making these I would jump on it !

Toyota does have it! I own a 2006 Sienna and it takes me like 5 seconds to fold down/raise the 3rd row for a completely flat floor.

Both of those minivans are quite bad for reliability and dependability. The transmissions are very weak and they're known to break down early. The engines are also not good - they're quite clunky and noisy, not very smooth at all. Let's just say there are very good reasons why you can get them so cheap on the used market. I strongly recommend you look at a Toyota Sienna - specifically a 2007-2010 (these use a metal timing chain vs a timing belt on older ones). You can easily find them with power sliding doors and the higher trim levels also have power tailgates. They are more expensive than a Grand Caravan or Town & Country, but they are much much better built and can easily go 250K+ miles trouble free. It will run circles around any minivan Chrysler makes.

I think you will regret buying either of them

if you weren't a mechanic, I would recommend staying away from these.  But since you have knowhow, and if you are willing to fix problems when they arise, either one could be a good deal depending on the price and if the vehicle checks out.

I know for myself, fixing something like that is out of my comfort zone, so I usually stick with Toyota or Honda.

Just know what you are getting yourself into.

I recommend looking into the reliability of the specific engine and transmission of the the specific van.  Both the Grand Caravan and the Town and Country are built on the same platform.

Neither. Get a Sienna instead.

They are both basically the same you should be scared about both I wouldn't spend any real money on either of them.
