Hello Scotty! I have a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer automatic trans with 58K miles. My ABS traction control engaged for no apparent reason while driving on a flat dry road. Then i got 'RSC Service Now' on the instrumental cluster with a loud annoying chime. I immediately shut off the car and when i restarted the engine the warning was gone until i drove again for a few minutes and did it again. I then took it to a mechanic and he hooked up his fancy diagnostic tool to check for any fault codes unfortunately there wasn't any. He then ran live data on the abs system while taking it for a test drive. All speed sensors were fine except for the 'Angle Steering Sensor' was eradict. He then went ahead and changed that sensor to no avail. Any guidance Scotty would greatly be appreciated! Thank you!
so the mechanic didn't check his work? He just gave up and returned an unfixed vehicle back to you? Didn't provide a guarantee on his service? Never a good sign.
You need to check the steering angle signal again. If it's still bad then either the replacement sensor is defective or there's a problem in the connector, ground point, damaged wires etc.
Hello @MountainManJoe! Thank you so much for your help. The mechanic actually then said my only option is to replace the ABS Anti-Lock Brake Pump Assembly Stability Control and can't guarantee it will fix the problem. It's mind boggling but will definitely go for a second opinion.
Who was your mechanic, Bozo The Clown?
Hey @ Doc! Yea appears that way. 😂
