My hands, finger joints have been cramping lately. I remember awhile back in one of your videos, you had a solution(taking a supplement via pill form) yet I cannot remember what it was.
Can you please inform us again what it was? Thank you, Scotty.
Hold up!
This is an automobile forum.
You need to visit your preferred certified health professional and have them diagnose your condition.
I would not take medical advice from random strangers on the internet, unless they’re certified medical professionals.
I don’t think anybody here (let alone Scotty) would take any responsibility for any untoward medical complications which you may suffer from, after heeding to advice from here.
Visit your doctor!
Thank you, InThrustWeTrust. Advice is advice and I alone am responsible for the consequences. I've learned that anything considerably dangerous would require a prescription and I trust the advice that was once provided by Scotty in one of his, "here's a quick tip videos". He once described the exact situation I am in and once provided a solution. I'm only here to seek that answer and if not from him, I still appreciate any advice.
No worries, as long as you’re aware of the risks. Hope you get better soon.
Here’s the video, again, as long as you know what you’re doing - watch from 03:50
Thanks, InThrustWeTrust. I'm gullible and naive. I'm sure I'll be back to thank you after a few regrets.
Before then, I'll thank you now. Thank you, thank you. I didn't see the video till after my last post. This is the one I've been looking for.
How did you find it? I'm suppose to be good at this stuff. o.O
No worries. All I did was type ‘wrist pain Scotty Kilmer’ in the YouTube search bar.
{black}:idontknow:
Exactly!
I'm not sure what Scotty recommended, but when I was diagnosed with arthritis my doctor suggested taking glucosamine, chondroitin, and msm (available together in one pill). I've found that stuff helps after you've been taking it a while, and that the higher quality product found in health food stores is more effective than the chain store stuff.
Thank you, Chuck Tobias for the advice. Bought some and already on it.
Depends what you mean by cramps. Muscle cramps aren't common in the hands because the hands don't have many muscles, and the ones they have are very small (the legs/calves are where most people get cramps). Also you mention joints. But here are some common possibilities, in no particular order:
- Carpal spasm: closest thing to a true cramp in the hands. Usually all 4 fingers will spasm down, kinda like a crab claw. Can be due to overuse (acutely), or hypocalcemia (ie, low calcium level in the blood; if you are on any medications that affect calcium, talk to your doctor about checking it). If it's happening when you are working with hand tools, it's from overuse - treatment is more water and intermittent rest breaks.
- Osteoarthritis: old fashioned wear and tear of the joints. Usually associated with stiffness and bony enlargement around the joints. Typically starts in the late 40's-50's. Treatment is stretching exercises + tylenol/advil/voltaren gel (my wife tried the gel, it worked a little). I am guessing that this is what Scotty might have been talking about supplements for, but honestly there is no supplement that has ever been proven to be better than placebo. ("Dammit Jim, I'm an auto mechanic with a YouTube Channel, not a doctor!!" 😉 )
- Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis): swelling of the tendon causes catching or locking, usually of 1 finger, and you have to push on it to get it to let go. Usually treat it with rest and splints, but occasionally need a cortisone shot.
There are other possibilities, but they are less common. Good luck!
Thank you, Dad2pwd for your advice.
I will try all of the above, minus the breaks. Thank you.
At this point if Scotty responds you will see it a video in a couple weeks and you will most likely be informed via notification (don't question it but a helpful g.t. member is helping out with that) if it does happen. If you remember even one word of what the video was called then go here and put that word in the search bar (you might need to refresh after you do it). Hope this helped, if not I wish you the best of luck. Definitely visit a trusted doctor don't just rely on random people on car forums.
Thank you, Kerem. Youtube search was my first attempt before I was directed to this forum. There was no luck on Youtube. Other than that, I will have to rewatch the 500+ videos that I already viewed, but it is what it is.
I'm still hoping that someone can quote Scotty though. He had the answer, I just didn't need the advice then.
