I tried to find a location to see if you were anywhere nearby, I live in Mass, and I would really like some help. I really love working on cars as well, and would love it if you could teach me some things outside of YouTube? I understand you're probably very busy and wouldn't be able to, just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Now to my cars problem(s):
Massive oil leak. Old spark plugs were covered in oil before. New ones are not covered in oil last I checked. I did an oil change, and have frequently been refilling the cars oil myself.
Check engine light is on and I've tried everything to my knowledge to try and fix it aside from outright replacing the knock sensor(s). There's a knock sensor code, I've replaced the motor mounts, fixed a coolant leak, checked the rocker arms, replaced the valve head cover (including the gasket), nothing has fixed it.
It's a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta with 150k miles on it. My mother never properly maintained it (such as changing transmission fluid, so it still has the same fluid that it's had since 2010) and her ex destroyed it. He rear ended trucks, drove drunk, etc.. I work on the cape so it's sort of scary driving this car all the way to falmouth, but it's the only thing I can afford right now.
Scotty is based in Clarksville, Tennessee and also stays in Rhode Island for part of the year. See the FAQ for information on making an appointment.

There's a knock sensor code
We can not diagnose a code that you don't share with us.
motor mounts, fixed a coolant leak, checked the rocker arms, replaced the valve head cover
None of these things would fix ANY check engine light.
never properly maintained it (...) destroyed it (...) He rear ended trucks (...) drove drunk (...)
So why are you pouring lots of money into it with things it doesn't really need - like motor mounts.
Share the code, let's see what it's about.
