I was recently in an auto accident and had to buy a car. I Went with a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a 3.8 V6. It has a very strong automatic transmission and 102k miles. My question is, the brake pedal is a little soft sometimes. I’ll press it slowly almost to the floor then step on it again and it tightens up. Also if I keep my foot on the pedal it very slowly sinks. I do all of my own work on my cars but also work 2 jobs and don’t have time to diagnose...do you think I should start with the master cylinder?
If it only does it while the engine is running it is probably the booster. If it does it regardless if the engine is running or not then it is probably the master cylinder.
I had it at the dealership for a recall on the passenger air bag sensor and had them diagnose the brake issue to save me some time. They said ABS pump module. Quoted me $3700...yikes. Gonna do some research. Thanks for the comments!
I'd start with bleeding the brakes. You might have some air in the lines. The cheapest thing to do is a brake flush, and a bleeding. If that doesn't solve it, then I'd move on to what parts might have to be replaced.
I agree. Always start with the simplest fix, which is just an air bleed.
