hey theyre Scotty 👋. I have a 1998 Ford f150 V8 4.6 liter triton with 177+ k miles on it. I got it from our apartment vendor that trailers off vehicles. I payed 6k with a 1000 down payment. I love the truck it's 2 wheel drive barely any major rust.  I would highly appreciate an answer if I should fix it internally, or just buy a new motor if the truck is worth keeping.

I believe it's eating oil other than that is it worth keeping and working on to make a daily work truck the gas is bad but isn't to a point were I am freaking out.

It's a 26-year-old vehicle, just about anything could be wrong with it. Start with adding florescent dye for engine oil that you can get at any auto parts store, put on funky sunglasses that you buy with the kit, run the engine for a hundred miles or so, then look for leaks. If the valve cover gaskets are original to the truck, they have long since cracked, causing oil to leak. Also check the rim of the oil pan, there's a gasket there that may be cracked.

If you've never changed the PCV valve since you had the truck, change it with an OEM one. When PCV valves stop working and they stay open, some oil is ingested along with the gas. All engines need to deal with blow-by. Rather than venting blow-by into the atmosphere, the PCV valve opens and closes to allow blow-by gases to entire the engine to be re-burned, along with oil residue. When they jam, some actual oil is sucked into the engine.

Half of your subject was taken off because there are only a limited number of characters in the heading, which you exceeded. The heading is intended for a couple words only, with the body of the subject right below it. Half of your question isn't there due to exceeding the character count. Please pay more attention, next time. Thanks.

I did what I could with the presented subject matter. If you retype the subject matter, I or somebody else will insert this into your original question.

Did you mean to downvote? I was acting courteously, haha.
