A long time ago, you could.

Now, bearings are typically integrated into a hub assembly. You just bolt on a new hub. You can check rockauto.com to see what's available.

I did wheel bearings once, with help, on 2003 Mazda Protege. An experienced mechanic used a 10-ton press, to press the old wheel bearings out of the hubs and then press new wheel bearings into the hubs. It was a pretty big job for someone with my novice skill level and I don’t have the right equipment. Replacing the hub& bearing as noted above is the best advice. Good luck

Cars that you could change the wheel bearings on without replacing the whole hub are long gone. You can probably get wheel bearings only, but it makes more sense to just do the whole hub. No special tools are needed if you change out the hub. It must be torqued properly.

My 1979 Pontiac Catalina's front end is a rotor and hub all in one, you can change the wheel bearings without a hydraulic press, but the the hub/rotor combination had to be very specific on its torque. The rotor/hub combo must be torqued to 15 ft-lbs. I've never changed the rear axle's wheel bearings, those are drums, to you may need a press.

Rear axle bearings on live axle rear-drive cars are typically pressed onto the axle shaft. I have not had to replace any recently but used to remove the shafts and take them to a machine shop to press new bearings on when needed. (The method of axle shaft removal varies depending on make and model. AMC, as usual, has pretty much the wackiest setup to deal with.)

I figured, luckily I've not had to replace those, lol. I know the front wheel bearings were original to the car -made in USA. The replacement bearings were noticably less durable and flimsy, made in Taiwan crap. I kept both of the old Hecho en USA parts.

Those tapered roller front wheel bearings need to be repacked with fresh grease once in a while, and any time the rotor or drum is removed, to keep them happy. It's also important to set the correct preload on the bearings on reassembly.

don't forget you have two pairs of bearings on the rear axle
