I'm looking to buy a used truck. I bought a 1994 Toyota pickup about 8 years ago for $735. It had 150,000 miles on it and was pretty beat up. It has lasted me until recently when the head gasket failed. I taught myself how to make many repairs but I think it's finally time to let it go. I've been looking at a 2015 Nissan frontier with 174,000 miles on it at a dealership. I checked the Carfax report. One owner, good maintenance records and it looks to be in near mint condition. There were some minor damages due to two accidents. I don't know the nature of the accidents but Carfax says they were minor. The dealership is asking $10,800 for it. I'm confident that I could talk them down from there since they've already lowered their price twice. What do you think, am I making a poor decision on a truck with this many miles, a couple of minor accidents and no bed liner for $10,000?
Yes, that is a mistake indeed. Firstly it's a Nissan truck and not a pre-2000's one. Lots of reported common failures one from the top of my head is the transmission. Especially around the 175k mark that's getting close to comfort for me. It it was prior replaced you may have better luck. I would just take the toyota to the shop and get the gasket replaced haha, much cheaper than a crap deal, it certainly would last longer (I think especially if you took care of it well), and the last one I worked on had 330k, I mean the head had to be resurfaced but given that everything was original but still, not bad at all.
I would walk away from that 2015 frontier which that high mileage.
I’m die hard Nissan but at that mileage it’s not worth that much and way higher mileage than a dealer would even sell? Possible they own it for an absurd amount of money for some reason. Those aside from the possibility of intermix which at that mileage I would guess they have already fixed that issue. But still at that mileage definitely not worth 10k
I've read that the issue with nissan and the radiator tanks leaking and mixing coolant with transmission fluid was only a problem between '05 and '10. Problem is that there are no Frontiers (which really is my dream truck) under $10,000 and under 150,000 miles. Got to find that little old lady who only took it to the grocery store and church. 😉
They are awesome Trucks but can be hard to find in good condition
