- Hi! I am looking at a 2009 Jeep liberty with a 3.7 L V6. The seller claims the shop said it blew a head gasket, yet when I went to look at it it was spitting oil from a hole on the side of the engine at the top. She said she was shopping, came outside started her vehicle and that’s when the thing blew at the top. When I started it there was no knocking or anything, and she said there were no pre-existing symptoms. I was thinking I could replace a metal piece at the top but was worried about how this could’ve even happened to begin with. It’s a 4 x 4 and I could probably pick it up for somewhere around $1000, but I wanted to get your opinion. Do you think it needs a whole new engine like the shop is claiming, and what could’ve possibly caused this? Should I just run away even for $1000? Thanks!

Don't buy blown engines. Especially Jeeps. The thing is garbage.
