Hi Scotty, big fan of yours,

Im wondering if it is a good idea to buy Honda Accord 2000 year model with 450 000km on it for 1000Eur. I think they last forever. I saw a youtube video with one that had 1 000 000 miles on it hahaha. The cost of changing the timing belt and water pump is around 500euros. It has no rust and condition is fine. Its a manual 5 speed car. How long do  y o u  know they last? Am I maybe overexcited over VTEC engine?

Best regards and all well, from Slovenia

My personal opinion is that it could be an okay daily driver to save money but ONLY if it has been maintained properly. Make sure the oil has been changed every 5,000 miles or around 8,000km in your case, transmission and clutch is good, valves have been adjusted, etc. You have OBDII on that Honda, so take it to someone who can hook up a scan tool, look at the codes and live data stream. That'll tell you if it's in good shape or not. If it is in good shape, it could very well get you over 600,000km if you take care and baby it. But expect to perform basic preventative maintenance such as the timing and serpentine belt, battery and alternator, cooling system, things like that, so it won't leave you stranded or stuck at home. Also be sure to check that all of your suspension components such as wheel bearings, tie rods, CV axles, etc. are in good condition to keep you safe. It's not that difficult. Hopefully it is in good condition; best of luck to you!

Please put your answer in the "answer" section, not the comment section. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm new to this whole thing and how to respond to people. My bad...

You are new to this but you know how to down vote.

For daily driving, no. It is old with too many miles.

There are a ton of things to take into account, like the price & what other cars are on the market in your area.

IMHO, generally speaking the sixth generation Accord with a manual transmission is an excellent choice in terms of reliability and longevity. I am still rolling in my sixth generation Accord as a daily driver, with 272,000 miles, almost 450,000 km. And I have maintained the heck out of it.

You already know about the timing belt. The biggest issue I am dealing with right now is leaks from seals on transmission axle seal and possibly the engine rear main seal. It’s an old car, so it is expected. It’s manageable at this point.

But if the engine and transmission were well taken care of, I think it can be used as a daily driver. It’s amazing how many of these I see driving around my city 20+ years later!!!

Granted, know what you are getting into. It is not necessarily a money pit, but it is not also maintenance free.

Yeah, probably Hondas in America last longer. As Toyotas.

You probably mean F20B6 engine. Perhaps @dan can tell more about it.

@g-t With VTEC and over 200 engine, without all of that emissions junk that’s a solid engine.
I’d say 350,000km+ (~220,000+ miles) or more if you service it right and respond quickly to faults or sounds.

@dan then it seems to be the same story as with Toyota if those for America last longer than those for Europe

I wouldn't buy this car. It's too old and high mileage and worse, parts could be difficult to find cause Hondas are rare sights in Europe, especially in Slovenia and other Balkan countries.
