Honda HRV Transmission issues

Hi Scotty!

My fiance's 2017 Honda HR-V awd had to be taken into the shop (dealership) because the transmission was jerking and lights came on. Well, we were told that metal shavings were found inside and that it was essentially falling apart. So what we were told was that it's going to need a brand new one. Thankfully it should be covered under warranty (we had the regular warranty and an extended), so we shouldn't have to pay out of pocket. (Anywhere between $7k-$10k... :whew: )

Even though we're getting a brand new transmission; the car only has 65k miles, and this new part will have an additional 3 year/36k miles warranty, is it worth holding onto this vehicle? We are good at regular maintenance and mostly drive on the highway. From what the dealer tech told us, it was a the 1 in a million bad transmission, they had never seen this before.

Thank you for reading my question!

Def not normal. You should be fine now with the new transmission.

This is interesting, they are usually very reliable transmissions.

Has the transmission fluid always been changed on schedule & if yes, was it verified if the dealer actually did the fluid change?

You got really lucky with the extended warranty & this time around, verify that the dealer does indeed do the transmission fluid change in front of your eyes & not just bill you for a job they didn’t do. Honda makes excellent CVT transmissions.

Good luck!
