Honda Transmissions

Hi Everyone. I've tried Googling and I haven't had a lot of success. I've even tried to Google specific models and still came up empty handed. So I thought I'd phone a friend.

I know Honda used to have problems with their automatic transmissions. I think they were the Jatco variety. I hear that they have gotten away from those now and that their transmissions are much better.

Can someone point me in a direction as to what year (approximately) Honda moved away from the Jatco automatic transmissions? I'm in the market for a used car and I'm on a bit of a limited budget. I know Toyota's and Honda's are pretty easy to work on, but due to budget constraints I'm looking at something with higher miles. Any guidance?

I don't have the absolute answer for your question but in my opinion, for your goal (find a good used car), it is better to search that specific model to find which years to avoid. This can be applied to any car make and model since all cars (including Toyota and Honda) has some models that are really problematic (not only the transmission, sometimes the engine, sometime electronics,...)

Bets thing you can do is find a well documented service history on what ever you buy, especially if your considering high miles, say over 100K.
