I passed by the Toyota dealership I traded in my 2015 Fusion to buy a Camry today, and saw my Fusion leaving the dealership. A youngster was driving it with an older man in the passenger seat. I guessed he was his father. I didn't mean to stalk but I drove behind it a while to silently say goodbye to my old car. I had lots of memories with it. I did pretty much every first thing in my life with it and it was damn reliable. When I saw that they had noticed me following them, I took the exit and watched them disappearing into the distance. Has anyone here been through such emotional stage?
{black}:crying:
Yes, I develop unhealthy attachments to the cars I buy.
Add me to that list, too.
i miss my high school truck, it was sky blue '70 custom cab, short bed, dates, firewood, ball practice
i drove a school bus and saved my money, daddy paid half and i paid half, 70k miles , $700 from a highway patrolman
am radio, could pick up the king biscuit flower hour late at night
rolled it down a powerline on the side of Glassy Mountain 😭
but i aint emotional! 🤣
I know someone who sometimes talks to his vehicles in a sort of loving way. It may or may not be me. Okay, it's me.
Well lets see, every car i have sent to the scrap yard. I do miss them dearly. 1993 honda civic hatch dx 1993 ford crown vic p.i. 1998 sunfire gt 1993 chevy ck1500 sportside extended cab with 305 v8 2006 ford focus zx4 ses limited 2000 honda civic hatch dx 2001 mazda b4000 super crew cab 4x4 2003 gmc yukon denali xl 1998 vw passat 1.8t with a stage 1 tune and frankenturbo and other upgrades 1997 subaru forester base 2002 ford f150 super crew cab 2wd 2006 acura mdx touring 2006 gmc envoy denali xl 1996 ford crown victoria base with straight pipes and no cats
I miss my 1978 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. Was such a great car. I put truck tires on because some tire salesman suggested it. I think he was trying to get rid of them from inventory. Turned out to be a great thing for me. It paid my way thru college. I pulled advertising trailers for New Homes. Set up Real Estate sale signs, did all kinds of things. It was "My Truck", in a 2 door hatchback version. I also commuted to College too. I even went off road with it for fun, chasing 4WDs. Then I bought a new Mazda truck and kept the Toyota for a while. Then sold it because I just wasn't driving it anymore. And I miss my Mazda truck too. Got married, mrs said to sell the truck. Well, years later, I should have kept the truck. And left her.
Then about two years ago, I was in a salvage yard looking for body parts for my old VW Vanagon. AND WOW. I saw a 1978 Toyota Hatchback, same Red color. It wasn't my original, I checked, LOL Of course it was in shambles, engine ravished for parts. Interior thrashed missing seats, and dashboard disassembled... But I still saw my Toyota Hatchback in my eyes. Was a dang good car. Ah, the memories...
Cars I do not miss at all:
Brand new 2011 Dodge Journey SXT fiat v6 fwd. (By 42000kms the transmission was slipping in all 6 gears and reverse, warranty covered replacement trans. Then at 84000kms i had all neutrals, warranty covered new trans. at 91000kms heads failed, warranty covered that. At 97400kms the motor spun a bearing, warranty covered new motor. With 1001kms on new motor, it spun a bearing too, no more warranty coverage. I scrapped that <profanity removed> after 2 years of owning it from brand new.
As a collector, you can't be surprised that I sympathize with you 100%.
I've had more than one car I've thought about selling, only to wind up unable to let it go.
Memories are priceless. I very, very rarely sell my personal cars these days. Even my daily drivers get cared for extra because I spend so much time in them. My Ridgeline is basically my mobile office at this point, so if I ever let it go....I'll be sad. The wife always has a good cry when we sell a car as they are members of the family to us.
Yup. I still have my 1999 Honda Accord since brand new. Everyone is telling me to get rid of it. But I am too attached.
When I was a kid, I never understood why people kept old non-classic, essentially worthless, cars around. I get it now.
Yeah I miss the first vehicle I ever drove.
Wish I had one for sure
It weighed 120000 pounds, had an air cooled, 1200 hp, V 12 engine.
Got terrible gas millage, barely 2-3 gal per mile.
Two speed auto trans. No A/C
But on the plus side, it had 8 inches of armor plating and a 90 MM main gun!
M 48!
At the beggining of ownership somehow yes but it passes over time.
I miss my '97 Celica ST 5 speed. It was a love-hate relationship. She was super fun to drive, low power, stick shift, some of the best looking curves, the rear end somewhat resembling a Mustang with vertical taillights mixed with some Supra curviness. Rear quarter profile always had me staring too long. Unfortunately, she left me stranded a couple times on some of the busiest roads in SoCal, once on the 405 by Santa Monica on 4th of July weekend and again on Vermont Ave. Electrical system was shorting out on something, wouldn't start back up. She burned a ton of oil, started leaking more oil at a time when I needed to commute 100 miles a day on steep roads (both ways), so it was sold for $1000 to someone who I know did not put any love into it 😰😭 I would pay 3-4x times that to have her back so I can treat her right
Wow. You guys all ought to get together for a group session with Dr. Phil. HA!
