[Solved] How long will my Kia last?

Hi Scotty,

I have 2010 Automatic Kia Rio with 175k miles on it. It runs well (not as smooth as new car). What will be your advice on when I should start looking for a new one based on historical averages for Kia Rio from 2010?

I replace engine oil 2 times a year with Synthetic High mileage oil. Also, please advice on general maintenance for such a car.

I drive around 5000 miles per year with most trips less than 50 miles at a time.

Thanks in advance for your advice... 🙂

I'm surprised that your vehicle lasted that long without the engine blowing up or not catching on fire.

If you want to still want to drive it longer, keep up with the maintenance. Change the Oil every 5k and check all engine components and see if they need to be replaced.

It’s never a bad idea to start looking for a replacement for a 175,000 mile Kia vehicle.  At the very least, have a short list of vehicles that could hypothetically replace the Kia;  the last thing you want is to be scrambling when your vehicle suddenly fails on you and the cost of repairs don’t justify keeping it.

you're changing the oil too often

Much better to change it too often rather than the alternative!

Or you can just do it right

You're on borrowed time as it is. Just continue doing what you have done and pray for the best.

Maybe those extra oil changes are working to your benefit!
