How should i get my car fixed

Hi I just bought my first car a 2012 ford fusion hybrid with a little over 107k miles. After driving it for about a week I noticed some performance issues so I did research and learned that ford had programed the battery to be less powerful after an amount of years regardless of the health of the battery. Ford had issued a csp statement (22G04) and it could be fixed via software update that could be done for free for about a year but I had just missed the deadline by just a week as I just purchased the car. I called the dealership and they said they could do it for $160 after talking to their hybrid guy who confirmed it would be fine for the car. I also found forums online that suggest I could buy obd 2 scanner and change the age of the battery myself and save some money. Should I have the dealership do it or should I save a buck and do it myself?

Do they tell which one can do it and how? I assume you need a high level scan tool to do this. Those aren't cheap. And you probably need to know how to do it. If you're not familiar with scan tools, let the dealer do it and hope they won't screw up.
