I've wondered about how well a Hyundai Genesis Coupe (last made 2016) would serve as a basis for a dedicated street-legal track day car (no trailer rig). I notice they run cheaper than same-aged Subaru BRZs and wonder what mileage should I look for on a manual transmission version in the interest of having it last a reasonable time (if that's possible) under such duty. Any input would be appreciated.
@Californiaguy21 Thank you! 🙂
I would not track a Genesis coupe. They are not a quality built vehicle and when you start putting them under stress like that, you start to see things break quickly.
There is a reason they run cheaper than the BRZ's. They are not in the same class quality-wise.
They are not well made vehicles overall, and putting them on the track will only exacerbate and reduce the lifespan of that vehicle. In short, if you need a vehicle to do some trackwork, look elsewhere.
Hey, track day whatever you want, but a couple suggestions. If you're not going to trailer it, get something that you can put a track set of wheels/ tires, compressor and tools into. The tires that are good for track days aren't cheap or very good for street use (and will wear out quickly in regular use).
Maybe try doing autocross first - a lot cheaper, less modification, no roll bar/cage required, lots of more locations/access than race tracks. etc. And a helluva lot of fun.

Those cars are garbage, don't put one on the track.
