I have a 2001 nissan maxima. It really shakes when i'm breaking and notice it more at 40 mph and below. I don't notice it upon acceleration or going between 60-80 on the highway.

Always post your odometer per the instructions please.
Common problem. You either have warped brake rotors or worn out wheel bearings.
If the steering wheel shakes, it's the front or both. If your seat shakes, it's the rear.
Either way, jack up the car, remove wheels, inspect and locate the problem. Replace the bad parts.
