I have a 2005 4RUNNER with 260k kms , its a v6 4wd. When i get up to 40-50 kms/hr there is a shake or shudder. It goes away when I speed up. Do I need to flush the transmission fluid or is it something worse like the torque converter? Please help! Thanks

  1. The shake/shudder happens at exactly 40-50kms? Do a driving experiment and report back your findings. Any details might help narrow your problem down.

Yes it seems to be around those speeds and when i first feel it happen and keep that steady speed it seems to stay until I let off the gas or speed up. I don't believe it's the u joints.

I believe Toyota put out a TSB for this issue a while back. I have an '03 with the 4.7V8 and the dealer re-installed the rear driveshaft, rotating it 180 degrees back in '06. If that doesn't help, try changing the u-joints. Also, make sure you're front brake calipers aren't sticking. Park on a flat surface and see if you can push the vehicle while in neutral.
