I have a 2007 Saturn Aura and it's automatic. I had misplaced my keys and had a locksmith make me a new key but first he had to get into my car. I noticed that something wasn't right because he had taken off my door panel. I was bouncing in-between work and checking on the status of my vehicle. Well he got it "repaired" well ever since then I have had a parasitic drain and my locks will unlock manually but will not lock manually. I have no clue where to start with this I have the car panel half way off 😆 but I have no clue what I'm doing and overwhelmed because I'm clueless and my car battery is draining every single day. I also hate the fact I am a female and when they see us coming we are seen as an easy target for money. I have had the battery replaced, the alternator replaced and I am not bringing it to another mechanic I have just about EVERYTHING replaced in this car because I listened to the wrong people except the motor. 🤦🏽♀️I have at least 5 times the amount into this car than what I purchased it for and I'm doing research and trying to educate myself with the help of others so people quit taking advantage of me and I can get my car working so I have a reliable vehicle for my children. Any insight would be helpful, thank you
if you push the locks down manually they will lock but the electrical portion on the door won't lock and engage the locks to lock.
That kind of problem is usually the switches. (That thing is 17 years old after all.) Since they do unlock the problem is presumably not the power feed going into the doors or the lock motors. It would be necessary to remove the power lock switches and check their operation with a multimeter to determine that. Hopefully the problem is not the body module. You'd need a professional-grade bidirectional scan tool to test that.
One thing that may help you work on the car is a repair manual which is available online:
As far as the locking problem, when you say the doors won't lock "manually" do you mean you can't lock them by directly pushing the locks on the doors or they won't lock when you use the electrical switch? If the latter do the individual switches on the doors work or is it just the master switch that doesn't work?
There are ways to determine the source of the parasitic drain, such as:
Thank you for responding, if you push the locks down manually they will lock but the electrical portion on the door won't lock and engage the locks to lock. It will unlock using the buttons but won't engage the locks by hitting the lock button. Well the passenger side has never worked but the master lock has always worked and with me being the only driver that's the only one that mattered but now neither of them are working and I have to manually engage all locks by hand which is a pain in the rear having to climb in the back every time I get out of my vehicle.
