Since I drive for Uber, I put a lot of miles on my 2014 RAV4. I purchased the car with 77,000 miles on it and now three years later I have 220,000 miles on it. It has the standard 4 cylinder engine with a 6 spreed automatic. Ever since I have owned it, the engine has a slight vibration just after I accelerate above 20MPH. The slight vibration only lasts for a few seconds and then just normal engine noise. I recently had a rider in my car who marveled at how well my car handled with 220k miles on it. He told me to expect to have transmission problems around 250k miles and that my wheel bearings would need to be replaced as well.
I am averaging between 29 and 31 MPG with the car in eco mode during the warmer months and between 25 and 29 MPG during the colder months. We live in Libertyville, Illinois about 40 miles north of downtown Chicago. Most of my driving is on suburban streets and highways. I do not do a lot of stop and go driving in downtown Chicago.
I am still paying for it and that will be over by mid 2024. Will I have many issues going forward if I continue to put 40,000 miles plus on the car each year? I have heard what you have said in your youtube videos that Toyotas last forever. Is that the case here? I'd like to think that if I continue to service the vehicle every 6,000 miles with synthetic motor oil, and do the other regular maintenance, I should have no problem getting 400k miles or close to it. Your thoughts?
I love this car. It is my second RAV4. My first RAV4 was a 2009 LE with the 6cylinder engine. Not as good gas mileage. I think I averaged 22MPG. But it pulled away from stop lights like the space shuttle at launch. At 240,000 miles on that first RAV4 my transmission needed replacing. I ended up selling the car and getting this 2014 model.
I have read that the 2014 was one of the better model years for the RAV4. IF when I get around to buying another car, what model years would be best for the RAV4? I have read where the 2019 RAV4 is to be avoided. By 2025 I will probably need to purchase another car. I am leaning toward another RAV4. And with the impending UBER requirement that all vehicles on their platform need to be EV's by 2030, that will be the year I will be retiring when I reach 70. So I will probably get another gas powered RAV4 or possibly a Hybrid RAV4, not an EV. I have heard that EV's are not very long lasting especially if one puts more than a certain amount of miles on it like I would.
Would a Hybrid RAV4 be a good choice for UBering? Or just stick with a gas powered version?
Thank you and keep up the great work with your videos. I am a subscriber and I really enjoy your commentaries.

Nothing lasts forever, but it's a good car that should continue to serve well as long as you maintain it.
Are you keeping up? Transmission fluid, spark plugs, motor mounts, suspension parts etc.?
