Idling All Day in 2019 Honda CR-V

Hi Scotty! I watch all your videos on YouTube, and I'm hoping you can give me some good advice...

I'm semi-retired, and deliver Uber Eats to supplement my income. I have a service dog (diagnosed PTSD) and so I need to have the car idling with AC on when I'm not driving on the road so that my loyal best friend can stay cool. BUT, I made the mistake of purchasing a 2019 Honda CR-V EX AWD Turbo.

What can I do to make this car last with such harsh usage? I've been using Mobil 1, 0-20 and doing oil changes every 2,500 miles. Is there anything else I can do to make this car last? I live in California, so we don't have colder weather here...

Any advice from your holiness would be greatly appreciated!!

Best Regards,

Bob in Sacraghetto, California

You’ll be fine.

Just be sure to follow the Severe Usage maintenance interval, in your owner’s manual. Changing the oil every 2500 miles is a good idea.

  • Scotty made a video on this about 4 years ago. In the video he said that in modern cars idling is not a problem and doesn't really ruin the car for 2 reasons.
  • 1. The car has electric fans to cool the engine so it doesn't overheat that give enough air not to do any damage.
  • 2. Modern fuel injectors run on computers that make it run perfectly even on idle and won't overheat the catalytic converter.
  • One thing to beware of is don't idle while in drive because that puts strain on the transmission which can ruin the transmission. Instead idle only in Neutral or Park.
  • I hope all this helps have a great day
