If you drive less than 500 miles a year, when do you change transmission fluid?

2016 Acura RDX, 6cyl, 6 spd automatic.

I only drive approx. 500 miles a year. So I change my oil once a year. When should I change my transmission fluid?

every 50,000 miles or so. See our FAQ for details.

since your car mostly sits and you may never see 50k in your lifetime, you might benefit a tiny bit by doing it now, just to eliminate any contamination/corrosion, and to restore any additives in the transmission fluid that may have broken down over time. Just make sure manufacturer service procedures are followed to the letter.

A common problem with seldom-driven cars is that moisture can collect in the oil because the engine is rarely up to temperature - which is what removes moisture from the oil in regularly-driven cars. Make sure you get it up to temperature periodically, and don't just do 2 mile drives. Also, since you are only using 2 fill-ups of gas a year, you might want to add Sta-Bil or equivalent to keep your gas from deteriorating.

These are steps that many folks who have collector cars, boats, motorcycles, etc. take to minimize maintenance problems.
