Hey guys im racking my brain on this one, so i had a valve stem changed on one of my tires for my 2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 and during the tire removal they saw there was a lot of play on the tire pratically from all angles and was told my wheel bearing needs to be replaced. They asked if i have heard any growling noises or anything substantially different when driving and told them no that the only thing i notice is when im braking the steering wheel jitters left and right but not to where im pulling to the side or anything, its rather fine. So im looking online for the rear side wheel bearing but i cannot find any for the life of me! I only see wheel bearings for the front side of the vehicle none for the rear...am i missing something or is it just hard to find that specific part? I'm aware it comes as an assembly but do i need the whole piece or only the wheel bearing itself? The mechanics quoted me 500 with parts and labor for both rear sides so if i wanted to only do the worn out one itd be about half the price give or take. Id love to hear what you guys think on the matter. I do drive 60 miles to and from work everyday hitting 45 from my small town to dallas for work
the bearing is probably integral to the hub. Search for hub assembly. Or let the mechanic source it for you.
If your mechanic is using OEM parts, that seems like a fair price for a Jaguar.
On a 21yr old vehicle, I would personally change both wheel bearings because the other/s won’t be far away..
If this is your daily driver, consider using good quality/OEM wheel bearing assemblies to avoid having to repeat the repair a few months later.
All the best!
