My brother in law in Europe is selling his Toyota Avensis. He wants about $4750 for it, and even with the cost of shipping I think it’s a good deal. (I just spent 3 week’s driving it around Romania, and it’s a great car. If I brought it into the US, would I be able to get parts for it?
Don't bother.
You'll spend more than that getting it emissions compliant and taxed, not to mention the issues getting it imported.
Unless it's at least 25 years old you won't be able to bring it into the U.S.
Chuck that is actually not true, while it is easier to get it in after its 25 years old you can bring them in before.
If less than 25 years old the car must be updated to U.S. safety and emission standards, which is can be very difficult and expensive to the point where it is rendered infeasible. Get caught bringing one that's not up to snuff and and it will be crushed by the feds. So for most of us that 25 year rule is pretty much iron-clad.
That's correct.
I agree with @Mod_Man. You will have hard time finding parts for that. What's special about that car that you want to import?
