Hello, I recently bought a 2013 Toyota RAV4 automatic with 23,000 miles from a Lexus dealership. The mileage is consistent with the carfax and the stock Toyo tires made in 2013.
No codes with OBDII, drives and idles like a new car. VIN on each panel matches, doesn’t burn any oil.
However:
1. there seems to be liquid splashing sounds coming from under the floorboard near the gas tank when breaking hard at low speeds. (I’ve checked the doors and some underbody drain plugs and they were all dry. Floor is also dry.
2. the speedometer is off by 3-4 miles.
3. In addition to the previous 2 issues, is there anything I should replace besides tires and filters?
Thanks!
what size are the tires currently on the vehicle?
Continental 235 55 R18, same size as the old Toyos

In some models, the baffles inside the gas tank are not designed correctly which results in the sound you hear. Do you hear it all the time or only when the fuel tank is full?

It is normal.

Consult with your owner's manual.
Thanks for the comment! Splashing sounds are definitely more noticeable the fuller the gas tank.
The sloshing is the gas in your gas tank. Not a whole lot you could do about it. A lot of vehicles do this. When I had my Camaro, I noticed it did it around 3/4-7/8 of a tank.
Might have Toyo tires, but are they the correct size as listed inside the driver's door sticker? How are you measuring the difference in the speedo?
Thanks for the comment! The Toyo tires were the correct size. Just got a new set of Continentals and the speedo is still off by a little.
I used a GPS speed app along with a OBDII reader to watch as I drive. OBDII and the app reads the exact same speed, while speedometer shows 3-4 mph less. I’m willing to live with this assuming it’s not a big deal.
Maybe it originally had 17" wheels from the factory, and somebody swapped 18" wheels onto it?
