Hi Scotty!! I love your videos! Thanks to you, I’ve made it a point to try and not take my beloved ford ranger tot he mechanic, and I rather enjoy working on it myself, when I can afford to do so! It’s got 217k miles and I’m getting error codes P0316 and P0305. Spark plugs, wires, and coil pack have been replaced. Cleaned the IAC, and replaced the camshaft position sensor (because I read that p0316 could be a bad camshaft sensor) still persistent.. misfire comes and goes, but seems to be triggered by running the truck hard and reviving high (like when accelerating onto the highway) after reaching high revs, the engine shakes a bit and idles really rough. Check engine light is on, and sometimes flashes. I usually just clear the codes when it pops up because I don’t know what else to do.. Thank you Scotty!!
Clean your fuel injectors and do a compression check.
I ran some stop through it at half a tank last week. Seemed to really help gas mileage, so I think the injectors are nice and clean now. Compression sounds good when I turn it over without fuel? I don’t have a tester to get specific numbers..
Misfire under high load to me sounds like a fueling issue. Id start be checking the fuel filter and pressure testing the fuel pump along with the cleaning the injectors.
Also, are you getting any misfire codes?
P.S. A flashing CEL means serious misfire is detected.
Not under load, but only after a load is implied.. so only at idle really. Once acceleration is applied, it runs smooth as can be! Codes p0316 and p0305 is all I’ve ever gotten
Ah sorry, misread that. So the P0305... its cylinder specific. Does it consume any coolant or oil?
No coolant. I do have a small oil leak, but I’ve never had to top it off. Always lasts with good levels u too I get to do the next change. The pan is covered in oil, no idea where it comes from
The p0316 is “misfire detected first 1000 revolutions” but I also read that it could be the camshaft position sensor. Upon changing that nothing really changed. I do think compression is good, after turning it over without fuel, it gets a good rhythm, nothing sounds out of the ordinary, I don’t have a compression tester..
Pressure gauges aren't too expensive, just make sure you have the right size to thread in properly. I think its the injectors
