Hi Scotty,
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and wanted your opinion. I’m considering buying a 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI S with an automatic transmission. It currently has 77,000 miles and is being sold at CarMax.
Would you consider this car reliable long-term if it’s properly maintained? Do you think it could last well over 150k miles?

Scotty has stated many times in his videos to avoid Volkswagens (except for the old air-cooled rear-engine models).
Also, CarMax has ripoff pricing and is a popular dumping ground for people looking to get rid of problem cars.
@chucktobias I believe "rolling piles of junk" or something to that effect was the verbiage he used.
@imperator Yes, I believe that is roughly the verbiage he used, and more than once.
@chucktobias I just watched a 7 year old video of his and yup he did mention to stay away from Volkswagen.

Simply put, “reliable” and “Volkswagen” go together like jumbo shrimp- the epitome of oxymorons. German cars are endless $$ pits.

I have never heard of a modern German car lasting over 100,000 miles, let alone well beyond 150,000, echoing the sentiments of @chucktobias and @imperator. A 2015 Lexus IS will be a much better candidate for what you’re looking for
