I heard in one of my automotive classes that you shouldn’t tap a modern starter to get a few last uses out of it (and indeed, when I put a new starter in recently and there is a sticker on there warning you do not tap), but I missed the part when the teacher said why lol. Can anyone explain?

Well, modern stars are so cheaply made. If you hit them too hard you could damage them. Yes. Pat realize if your car won't start and you tap it and then it does start that shows you that the starter is wearing out and you need to replace it so it would be shot anyways
