Hi everyone, a friend of mine who i trust is selling me his ‘01 VW Passat. It has 121k miles, a 5 speed standard transmission, the V6 engine and front wheel drive. It is a very well mantained and well kept car. IMMACULATE INSIDE AND OUT the engine runs nice and strong and the underside is clean, shifts super smooth as well. It just needs rear brakes, and new tensioner pulley, but my mechanic said it is a very very clean car that i can trust. Im asking yall because i plan on keeping this car for the next 4-5 years averaging about 10-13k miles a years as it would be my work vehicle and i work all across the state doing construction. Does anyone think that this car wont last? Or have any pointers to keep in mind. Ive dealt with a few lemons lately and need something i can trust without emptying my pockets on every week. Thanks for any and all help!

Don’t overpay.. It’s a 21yr old VW.

What would u consider a fair price my buddy wants wants $4,250 for it and it is very very very clean and well kept. My mechanic said try to get him to 3,500 but its one of those cars that is in such immaculate shape that i can still make money on it bc u dont see examples like this often

In this present market, I think anything above $3000 is too much.. It’s got >100,000 miles! Honestly, if he’s looking to sell the car for profit, let him sell it to somebody who wants to overpay for it. You don’t be that guy, as the risk is still too high. If something major breaks, the repair might easily exceed the value of the vehicle. Never get sentimental with a potential vehicle purchase.

Honestly, you got a rare gem there. Because it has a manual transmission, I'd expect this car to last a good while longer since the autos weren't great. Keep an eye on the plastics and electronics cause it is a 21 year old VW after all.
