It's Not Fair. There Are No More Manual Transmissions.

Hey Scotty & Community,

In the near future I'll be in the market for a Land Cruiser. Got my head set on the old V8 engines. Probably gonna be the most I'll ever spend (or ever hopefully ever will) spend on a vehicle. But there are no manual transmissions.

Then I've gotta take the hit if I fork out for a tranmission swap and they bodge it up.

With all the preferances people have these days...what about my preferance? Who's thinking about me I ask you? I need to make a complaint - can you tell me who to complain to?. {black}

Complain to lazy people who don't use their left leg for anything except balance.  Want a manual - get a Tacoma TRD Sport, it's the only one available with a manual.  Or find a vehicle you really like and put a Tremec trans in it.

why stop there? Stop driving your car like a lazy bum, and walk!

Here's a reality check - we will NOT all be driving electric cars in the future.

The future is vast. Not in your lifetime anyway

That is for ding dang sure.  I just cringe when people use words like "all" and "every."

Most Americans drive automatic transmissions. That's just how it is. In Europe, it is the opposite.

Guess you can just blame the majority here? Lol.

The take rate on manuals is very low, so doesn’t make business sense for automakers to keep producing it - as much as I don’t like it, too.

In addition to the reasons already given it's more difficult to meet emissions and efficiency standards when the driver is controlling shifting rather than the computer. (Unlike decades ago today's automatic transmissions deliver better fuel economy than a stick shift.)

Another issue making manual transmissions less popular is aging of the population. It's tougher to operate a clutch when your left knee gives out. Maybe the old Rambler "E-Stick" transmission is the ticket for that.

I'm retired now so it really doesn't matter much, but miles of stop and go traffic to and from work in an urban area makes you appreciate an automatic transmission in a daily driver.

I can count the number of people I know personally in my circle that can drive stuck on one hand. There isn’t a justifiable market for mass producing new ones. Hang on to the manual transmissions while you can!!!  Never let them go!!

Well, in this age, business matters. The majority of drivers aren't die hard car enthusiatists. They prefer automatic transmissions. The kids also learn to drive auto trans in Driver Eds. So of course, car makers don't want to make more manual cars. Another thing is we will all be driving electric in the future. You can't get manual in an electric vehicle.

I can drive a stick but I prefer an automatic. The last manual tranny I drove was an 89 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z. Sure was fun burning rubber after getting that turbo wound up.

There are vehicles still out there with manuals, but the choices are quickly diminishing.

The decline of the human race. I think we can measure a lot from how people drive and what is generally chosen as the average car.
