Jeep timing chain tensioner

Topic starter

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with 103,000 miles.  Has the 2.4 L multi-air engine.  Car runs fine.  I know this rig has a timing chain....not a belt.  So I wasn't worried about changing that until I saw and read a couple other posts out there that said the BELT TENSIONER should be changed.

Is this true? Do they really go bad?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Of course a fan belt tensioner can go bad. It's spring-loaded and over time the spring can get weak.

If you're talking about the timing chain tensioner those can and do go bad as well.
