I watched 2 vids that mention a scanner damaged a car engine. One video mentioned the FIXD not to drive with it in the port. I only use it for diagnostic test. I have also gone to Auto Zone and O’Reilly’s to verify which they did for every scan so far.
i have. 2016 Kia Soul under a recall and now wonder if it’s the engine or the tool. Can you be more specific about this tool and does it damage the engine if only used to scan. Is it a good tool?

Do not drive around with ANYTHING plugged into the OBD port all the time.
I only use it for diagnostic test.

Cars are recalled because the manufacturer finds safety concerns with a large number of units. Recalls have absolutely nothing to do with your scan tool.
