Just bought a used 99 odyssey for 1300$ on big island of hawaii. Has 168k miles. Havent noticed anything weird with trans or engine. Other than idle goes up and down at idle. Waterpump is leaking. Being replaced soon. A trans code p1739 does come up. Does that mean trans is going to <profanity removed by mod> or maybe can last a while longer. Get sensor on trans replaced? No slips, hard shifts etc.
Fluid isnt the reddest. Like maybe begging to light brown but cant afford to replace for a couple weeks might drain and fill with a quart of fresh do these things have a drain bolt?
Tires are newish, I see carfax history some shops.
They tried to use copper seal to fix leak and stopped leaking for an hr then when was in idle in parking lot the cap for reservoir blew off spitting coolant everywhere. Maybe bad reaction to copper seal stop leak? Had a bad radiator cap replaced after this happened.
Wondering if i can put a lil money into this and have it last a year or two or more

Here's every you need to know about P1739.
P1739: Problem In 3rd Clutch Pressure Switch Circuit. This means you have a problem with the 3rd clutch pressure switch.

What I would is calculate the amount of repairs that this vehicle currently needs. You said that you haven't noticed the engine or transmission acting bad. I would replace the sensor and see what happens. If the total repair costs of everything costs less than $1000 then you might have an ok car for a knock around, weekend or backup car.
Im trying to make this my main and maybe only car
I would not put much money on a 23 year old car. From the looks of your transmission, it is worn. If it still works ok with no issues, don't worry about it. If it needs a replacement sooner than later, then you're going to need a new car because I would not bother replacing a transmission on this vehicle.
I have a friend thatd charge less than 500 to change trans if i get it. I see em 1k on ebay
Does this person know how to work on Hondas? Replacing a transmission using costs around 2k including parts, labor, fluid, etc.
If it is has the engine I think it has, might as well change the timing belt while changing the water pump. Because usually, you have to remove the timing belt to get to the water pump.
My bet is that it has ever been changed. Look for a sticker or service record to see if it has or not.
