Just Live With It

Scotty often says to many problems with aged cars, “just live with it.”

I’m curious, what problems for 10, 15, 20+ year old cars do you choose to just live with? It might be because it’s too expensive to fix something so trivial, or maybe hard to find parts, or maybe some other reason.

What kind of car is/was it, how old was it, how many miles had it taken you?

And if you still have it, what will make you get rid of the car?

Onstar doesn't work. Costs too much to replace. Don't need it. Don't care.

I have a 2008 Mazda 3 GT with 189,000 miles, and the suspension makes noise every time I go over bumps. The suspension functioning good, it just makes noises. It's not bothering me to the point where I have to take the time and money to fix it; I'm just living with it lol.

The CV joints too make a weird knock noise once in a while when I make a hard turn, but they're working just fine too.

Honestly I'm just waiting for the car to die at this point; I'm not planning to spend money on it anymore. It's lasted a very long time in my opinion, especially since Mazdas during that time were mainly built with Ford parts lol. I'm focusing more on my BMW now, and I'm super curious to see how long it will last with how I baby it. The Mazda was NOT babied at all as I only changed the parts when they broke.

I think you already answered your question.

Example: engine starts burning oil at 200k km but still runs OK. In this case you live with it and add oil when needed.

Another example: braking system fails. There you fix it or get rid of the car (otherwise the car will get rid of you😀).

Minor oil drips. Half the instrument panel lights out. (Well, I'll probably fix that one day.) Bad ABS wheel sensor. Rear window washer doesn't work. Dead grids in rear defroster. Dead AC condenser fan. Bad paint and rust. Worn seats. Holes in carpet. Steering wheel crooked (car tracks straight, no bad tire wear). Creaking suspension bushings in cold weather. Pitted windshield. Slow power windows. Driver's seat heater inoperative. Driver's door light switch intermittent. Plastic underside covers fell out.
