Keeping civic for years

Hi Scotty , I am a Honda guy ,have been since 1993. I currently own a 2018 civic sedan , I bought brand new ,it has no turbo , 2 litre engine , with  a cvt . Has 70,450 kms on it in 3 years. We just paid it off early and my wife and I want to keep this car for a dozen more years atleast, we do approximately 23,000 km a year.

I do bring it every fall to get it rust proof oil sprayed underneath, inside doors etc every fall. They say it’s mineral oil. Am I wasting my $115. Per year ? Also my Honda has the oil life indicator on the dash, tells me when to bring it in to the dealer for maintenance.which I have followed for decades. Actually I find the Honda dealer is cheaper rate then they once were and use genuine Honda parts, filters etc.it’s usually an oil and filter change every 10,000 kms and an inspection/oil change where they do other checks, top ups, lubes, inspections plus oil, filter change every 20,000 kms. We drive with the “Econ” button on all the times as well, less wear on the engine as you say.Any suggestions to help us keep our civic as long as possible.
Thanks Mike Pelko in Montreal Canada.

ps.I am a huge fan subscribed to your YouTube channel, watch every video you drop.

Hy!

Just follow service manuals and it should be OK! Rustproofing is not a bad idea. I would also wash it after driving on salty road once week or as soon as it gets warmer.

Good luck!

I'm guessing you're talking about the NHOU undercoating? You're right in the heart of rust belt, so anything you do to keep rust from ever starting is worth it since you plan on keeping the Civic for the long haul. Just keep doing what you're doing and follow the recommendations in your owners manual when the time comes for things other than oil/filter.

Follow your owners manual's maintenance section. You should be doing oil AND filter changes no later than every 8k km, so I would adjust for that. Long term it makes a difference. Change the transmission fluid every 40 50k miles (60-80k km)
