Hey Scotty, I'm a big fan from Warner Robins GA, I was really hoping I can have a question answered about a car that I'm getting. I have a work from home position and was wanting the feel of a more luxury vehicle for when I take trips out of town. I have a 2016 Honda Civic (61,000 miles) and I found a 2015 Acura TLX 2.4L Base with 100,250 miles. I was able to trade my Civic into Carvana for the Acura with no additional money down. Do you think this is a wise purchase? I heard some Acuras have transmission issues but those are the V6 models. THANK YOU!
AFAIK, you have a dual clutch transmission. Not sure who makes it.
The V6 has a ZF transmissions and for the most part ZF is reliable, but they had a few not so great trannies.
You have the Honda K Engine. Probably one of Honda’s best engines. And it has been around about a decade so it has all the kinks worked out. Heck, I think your Civic may have been had the K Engine.
My only concern would be direct injection, which would mean cleaning the valves once in a while to minimize carbon buildup.
Other than that, I love Honda/Acura. They make good stuff.
The TLX I'm getting is a 4 cylinder engine which from what I've researched have a bit more reliability. The fact that it's Honda made and manufactured in the USA gives me confidence that even with 100k miles the TLX would still last me another 5-10 years easily, which by then I have interest in buying a nearly new TLX which look a lot more sporty. Thank you for your comment!
Here's the listing as well! https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1918117
Sounds like a very good upgrade for comfy, reliable driving.
I don’t think that was a wise trade since that 2.4L Acura TLX came with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and it’s already at 100,000 miles. It would have been one thing if it was low mileage, but for longevity and putting lots of mileage on it (if that is your plan) a dual clutch transmission is going to be the weak link (and a costly one when it does need repair).
I'm looking to purchase a "like-new" car likely before the TLX gets to the 200k mark which is where I expect to run into more major repair cost. Since it's an acura I don't think the resale value would be diminished as much. Also my intention won't be for this to be a daily driver since I'll work from home. Just for small vacations. I'd estimate a a maximum of 5-8,000 a year of driving. I figure this will give me a much better ride than holding onto my Civic and being let down by some of the features overtime.
