Hi, I'm from South Africa 2011 KIA Cerato Hatchback 2.0 Automatic(from a dealership) mileage: 102 000KM ... from the pictures I saw the car is still in good condition. Is this a good car to buy as a second hand?
Assuming the car you're looking at is a re-badged first generation Kia Forte,
The Hyundai Theta engine family was involved in many controversies and recalls, and so are many Hyundai 2.0L engines. Although the famously troublesome 2.0L was a NU engine and you're probably looking at a Theta, and although the main issues on the Theta affected only either GDi or 2.4L variants - This engine is far from perfect - Issues with cylinder scuffing and weak oil pumps forced quite a lot of owners to replace / rebuild them even at lower milages.
The transmissions on these are mechanically weak. During this time, Hyundai-Kia were still yet to perfect their automatics. The 4 speed suffered from destruction of the planetary and sun gears, while on the 6 speed they built them incorrectly and correction requires full disassembly.
The powertrain on that car is garbage, Avoid it.
Personally I'm not dismissive of Hyundai-Kia products, I've had good experiences with them.
But with Hyundai-Kia you have to be careful to pick the correct car.
If it would've been the same model year but with a 1.6L (requires borescoping the cylinder walls) and a 4 speed automatic (it's a better unit) then if you can get it for cheap - why not.
If this would be a 2014-up model based on the 2nd generation Forte with a 1.6L engine and a 6 speed automatic, if the cylinder walls check-out on the borescope, then it can be a decent car.
(On these early Hyundai-Kia cars, if it's legal where you live, you should remove the upper cat)
Often you can find a good Hyundai-Kia product for much cheaper than their competition, but some models like this you should avoid.
One of a office colleague had that. Its not a great car. But its also not a bad car. Never like a toyota or Honda. But one of the good choices you have if you have a limited budget.
Ensure that the numbers are good on the scan tool as they have had problems with the CAMS and random electrical problems.
No.
No, look for something else.
