[Solved] Knocking noise in neutral after clutch replacement

Hi Scotty!

Love your youtube channel!!!  Been watching it for quite a some time, and I figured I'd reach out for some advice.

I have a 2012 Nissan Frontier SV, manual transmission, 100255 miles. No codes on the scanner.

About 300 miles ago I had my clutch replaced at AAMCO. After replacement, clutch pedal feels extremely soft (it feels so soft that I actually took the truck back and had them re-bleed air from the system, but it made no difference and they claim there is nothing they can adjust -- according to them, my clutch is working fine)...
Anyhow, I started noticing that whenever I shift into neutral and allow it to roll -- there is a knocking sound that was not there before... If the car is in gear (even if it is just rolling with no acceleration whatsoever) -- there is no knocking, but as soon as I shift it out of gear into neutral -- starts knocking immediately. Could that knocking sound indicate any sort of problem with my clutch, or is that just a coincidence that the sound appeared around the same time the clutch was replaced?

You can hear what it sounds like here: https://youtu.be/LeRwulR4B3U

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Best regards,
Ilya

Your first mistake was going to AAMCO.  The clutch feels soft because the pressure plate they installed is a cheap and weak imported knock off of the original.  Same thing with the throw out bearing which I think is making the noise.  Either way, it sounds like the entire job needs to be done over and correctly this time, - use only OEM factory original parts - clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing.

I would investigate and explore that the shifter is not adjusted correctly.  Basically the I feel that the neutral gate is not in the right position but that would have to checked from beneath.  They took the trans out so the shifter had to be unbolted in doing so.  As for the clutch not feeling the same as before. This is concerning as they may have used some other brand not equal to the quality of what you had originally.   it does work but probably does not have the physical foot feedback originally.  But the bottom line is that the CLUNK was not there before and showed ONLY after the new clutch install.
