Should I replace my timing belt?

Bought a 2005 Lexus ES 330 w/135,000 miles and meticulous service records w/Lexus dealer. LOVE THE CAR.

Previous owner had the timing belt changed at 90,000, BUT that was in 4/2014. It’s 1/2023, so it’s been almost 9 years even though it’s only had 45,000 miles on the belt.

With a Lexus timing belt, would waiting until 90,000 miles on the belt be unwise given the *age* of the belt? Approaching a decade? Or is the belt strong enough that it wouldn’t matter compared to miles. Car was owned in St Louis so not a dry climate.

This car is an interference engine (confirmed with the dealer), so I want to be smart about this.

Thanks!

Has anyone had a timing belt from Lexus/Toyota well within miles but approaching ten years have it break?

I would replace the belt to be safe.

Thanks! Rats…going to be an expensive time. A/C clutch or something is making a lot of noise when ac is running, too…

If you believe anything a dealer tells you, you're in trouble.  If there is even the slightest doubt or concern about the belt, replace it.

Thanks!
