Is the 2001 Lexus is300 a good car? And would you choose it over a newer Lexus like a 2016 Lexus is300?
If the 19 year old one is cheap and doesn't have too many mileage, I would buy it. The thing is, it's 19 years old. Things will need to be fixed on it eventually. And Lexus are expensive.
@suzuki
It only has 128,000km and in good shape
@Curry
Parts also degrade with time, not just mileage. With that said, I don't think you can go bad with either choice either....if both properly ok'éd after mech inspection and market value priced.
It comes down to amount u want to pay
Newer car is better then an older car because it newer.
Lexus, Toyota are in general made well
It only has 128,000km and in good shape
Have a trustworthy mechanic check it out and if it really is in good condition and the price is right, go for it. Just realize that on an old luxury car things will eventually break and can be expensive to repair.
Awesome car - I live in the UK and have a 2003 IS200. It has covered 222,000 miles and is still good to drive and the interior is in great condition, does not feel worn. My wife drives it daily and we use it for long distance overseas trips to our holiday home in France, when the car is heavily laden with luggage And wine on the way home 🙂 Build quality is fantastic.
In this UK, the IS200 is much more common. I have also driven an IS300 belonging to a work colleague - it is better than the 200, has more power and the same fuel economy. The IS300 is rare in UK.
Things to look for on an old IS include worn front ball joints (check for a squeak when you turn the steering wheel)- one collapsed on ours when my wife was driving at low speed. Also the body can rust so check the sills in particular.
Used parts are cheap in UK. I have noticed in recent months values of old IS 200s and 300s creeping up, they are popular as drift cars.
Too old. If you can get it dirt cheap, it is ok.
I heard that it drives like a civic, so definitely test drive it.
If you want to go to newer models, check out is350. It has the bullet proof Toyota V6 engine.
IS 300 yrs 2001-2005 are the last year they use the 2JZ v6 engines which are awesome. I see these cars go for between 5k-9k with no mods and depends on the condition of the car. Plenty of support for aftermarket parts since it is the older supra engine. This will be my next car or a Toyota truck. The main question is how much are you willing to pay?
